The Kingdom Businessman Blueprint – Phase 5: Strengthening the Team

We’re in the middle of a series called Kingdom Businessman Blueprint, where we’re learning how to build businesses and leadership that last.

Many Christian businessmen set out with big visions, but along the way, they find themselves stuck, isolated, and frustrated. They work hard, but something is missing.

No great structure is built alone. Every strong building requires a solid support system, and every great leader needs a strong team. Yet too many men try to carry the weight alone, refusing to ask for help, struggling with control, or failing to create an environment where those around them can thrive.

A man who tries to build alone will always build small.

THE SOLO-PRENEUR DILEMA

Several years ago, I watched a documentary about the construction of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. One thing stood out to me: no matter how brilliant the architect, no matter how advanced the engineering, no building of that scale can be completed without a large, highly skilled team.

The project required thousands of workers (even sometimes imported from neighboring countries), specialized experts, and collaboration at every level.  If one part of the team failed, the entire project was at risk.

The same is true in business and leadership.

I own a virtual staffing agency, so I’m in the business of helping entrepreneurs build teams.  Many businessmen I speak to think that if they want something done right, they have to do it themselves. They don’t trust someone else to lead, so they don’t hire employees. And I bet these same guys don’t ask their wives for wisdom. And I’d bet they don’t seek mentors for guidance.

Eventually, these ‘solo-preneuers’ hit a ceiling. They can’t grow because they refuse to build with others.

BY DESIGN, WE CAN’T DO IT ALONE

Every entrepreneur has felt the tension between leading well and leading alone.

…Some of us struggle with control—we don’t trust others to carry the weight of responsibility.

…Some of us have been burned before—we tried to build with the wrong people, and now we’re hesitant to try again.

…Some of us don’t even realize we’re isolated—we’ve surrounded ourselves with employees but lack true accountability, wise counsel, and strong relationships.

God never designed us to build in isolation.

GOD’S PLAN FOR BUILDING A TEAM

In 2 Chronicles 15:3-6, Israel was in total chaos. Their society was crumbling, and one of the reasons was disunity.

“For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law. But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them. In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress.”

God allowed conflict and disorder to wake his people up. They had been trying to build their own way instead of aligning with his plan.

More often than we’d admit, we do the same thing along our entrepreneurial journey.

We think we can run our business without seeking godly wisdom.

We think we can lead our families without listening to our wives.

We think we can grow a business without hiring employees and surrounding ourselves with strong mentors or joining mastermind groups.

But when we try to build alone, eventually, everything starts to shake.

The Bible makes it clear: God builds through teams.

In every major move of God, men didn’t build alone. They built in community, accountability, and wise counsel.

WHO IS YOUR TEAM?

If you’re trying to build something significant, but you feel like you’re carrying it all on your own, maybe it’s time to ask:

Who has God placed around you that you’ve been ignoring?

Are you trying to control everything instead of hiring a team, delegating and trusting others?

Have you surrounded yourself with the right mentors and mastermind groups, or are you reinventing the wheel?

In Phase 4, you removed idols in your business to prepare you to lead.  Now, the question is: Who are you leading with?

Take a hard look at your business, your leadership, and your personal life.

Do you have strong, godly mentors?

Are you leading your team well, or are you unknowingly causing division?

Are you surrounding yourself with people who strengthen you, or people who distract you?

You weren’t meant to build alone. You need a team.

If your business, leadership, or faith feels stagnant, it may not be a lack of skill or effort—it may be because you’re trying to build by yourself.

KINGDOM TEAM BUILDING IS FOR ALL OF US

Imagine what would happen if Christian businessmen truly built together.

If we humbled themselves to seek wisdom.

If we built businesses that created strong teams.

If we supported each other instead of competing against each other.

That’s how kingdom leadership works. That’s how God builds something that lasts.

But having the right people around you is only part of the equation. The team is only as strong as its structure.

That’s why in Phase 6, we’ll talk about Preparing for Expansion. Because once the right team is in place, you have to make sure your structure can handle the growth God is bringing.

Are you ready for the next phase? Let’s go.

The Kingdom Businessman Blueprint – Phase 4: Tearing Down Weak Structures

We’ve been on a journey of understanding what it takes to build a God-first business that lasts. Every strong structure starts with a solid foundation, and in phase 1, we recognized that God has called us to build, lead, and create with purpose. In phase 2, we faced the reality that sometimes our foundation has cracks, and before we can move forward, we need to let God restore what’s broken. In phase 3, we laid the first brick, stepping out in faith instead of waiting for the perfect moment.

Now comes a critical step. Before a man can build a business that is great, he has to tear down what’s weak. No matter how good the blueprint is, if a structure is built on weak materials, it won’t last. This is the moment where we have to look at what we’ve been holding onto that might be keeping us from building strong.

WE ALL HAVE A WEAKNESS

My friend Kevin is a real estate investor.  Have you ever seen a home renovation show where a crew comes in to transform an old, run-down house into something incredible?  That’s what my friend Kevin does.  He documents the journey on Instagram for all of us to see.  Before he can paint walls, install new floors, or add beautiful fixtures, there’s always a demolition phase he takes us through.

He starts by tearing down weak walls, ripping out rotting wood, and exposing hidden issues behind the surface. If he skips this step and starts building on what’s already weak, the house will eventually collapse.  His investment will be lost.

The same is true in business, leadership, and life. No matter how skilled a builder is, if the structure is sitting on a weak foundation, it won’t hold up. Before God can build something great through us, he has to remove what’s keeping our businesses weak.

All Christian businessmen want to build something significant. We have big dreams for our ventures, our family, and our legacy. But often, we carry things into our future that were never meant to be part of the structure.

…Pride convinces us that we don’t need anyone’s help.

…Greed pushes us to chase success at the cost of integrity.

…Compromise allows us to justify small ethical shortcuts.

…Bad habits keep us from operating at our full potential.

A house filled with hidden mold or structural damage looks fine from the outside, but it’s one storm away from falling apart.

GOD WANTS TO CLEAN HOUSE

Things like pride, greed, and bad habits plague success-driven entrepreneurs and weaken our ability to build something that lasts. I’m no exception. Lord knows my idols.

Gideon learned this firsthand.

In Judges 6:11-16, we see Gideon, a man who was called by God to lead his people and take down their enemies. But before he could take on the challenge ahead of him, God told him to start at home.

“That same night the Lord said to him, ‘Tear down your father’s altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.’”

Gideon wanted to make an impact, but first, he had to remove the idols in his own home.

God wouldn’t allow him to lead others while still holding onto things that didn’t belong in his life. The same applies to us.

…A business built on dishonest dealings won’t stand.

…A leadership role filled with unchecked pride will collapse.

…A life that tolerates compromise will never reach its full potential.

Gideon had to deal with what was in his house before he could lead others. God calls every businessman to do the same.

YOUR TEAR-DOWN BLUEPRINT

What in your life or business needs to be torn down?

Is there a mindset, habit, or relationship that is weakening your foundation? Is there a cancerous employee you’re overly dependent on, even though you know they don’t belong in the structure God is building?

Tearing down weak structures isn’t easy, but it’s necessary if you want to build something that lasts. God is calling you to be a leader of integrity, strength, and purpose. Before he builds through you, he wants to clear out what’s keeping you weak.

OUR CHANCE TO BUILD SOMETHING GREAT

Imagine what would happen if more men committed to building their businesses and their lives on solid ground. If they stopped ignoring the things that weaken their leadership and instead focused on creating something that could truly last.

That’s what this journey is about.

But tearing down is just the beginning. Once the weak structures are removed, a strong framework needs to be put in place.

That’s what we’ll cover in Phase 5: Strengthening the Framework. Because without the right structure, the building will never reach its full height.

Are you ready for the next phase? Let’s go.

Why Success Starts with Action

Have you ever met someone who talks about their big dreams all the time—but never actually does anything? Maybe it’s a friend who always has a new business idea, but never takes the first step. Or maybe it’s you—you’ve had a vision, a calling, something you know God has put on your heart, but you keep waiting for the perfect moment to start.

One of my businesses is a virtual staffing agency.  I’ve met with hundreds of entrepreneurs (many of them my friends) who would inquire about finally hiring their first virtual assistant so it would free up time for them to grow their business.  We’d have a productive strategy session, map out the tasks, and we’d present them with candidates.  Then, they ghost me.  They go back to their old ways of doing the work themselves.  They don’t take the first step of achieving entrepreneurial freedom by hiring their first employee.

Here’s the truth: No building goes up without the first brick being laid. You can have the best blueprint in the world, but until you start taking action, your business, your leadership, and your calling will stay stuck in the planning phase.

WE ALL FACE FEARS

In the last phase, we talked about restoring the broken framework—how God can rebuild what’s been lost. But here’s the problem: Too many men stay in the restoration phase forever.

They spend all their time thinking, praying, and planning… but never move.

They wait for the “right time”… but never actually start.

They hesitate because of past failures… and stay stuck in fear.

How many businesses never get started because a man is afraid of failing? How many marriages never get healed because a man won’t take the first step in reconciliation? How many callings are left unfinished because a man is waiting for a sign from God instead of acting in faith?

This is exactly where the lame man in Acts 3 found himself—stuck in the same place every day, waiting for something to change.

GOD IS IN THE CHAIN-BREAKING BUSINESS

Acts 3:1-8 tells the story of a crippled man who sat at the temple gate every single day, begging for money. When Peter and John passed by, he expected a handout, but God had something bigger in mind.

“Peter said, ‘Look at us!’ So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’” (Acts 3:4-6)

At that moment, the man had a choice. He could have stayed sitting, doubting that anything would change. But instead, he got up.

And as he took that first step, his legs were healed.

Here’s the key: His healing came after his movement.

Many of us are waiting on God to act, but God is waiting on us to move.

You want a successful business? You have to take action.

You want your marriage to thrive? You have to lead the way.

You want to walk in your purpose? You have to get up and start building.

The enemy wants to keep men stuck in passivity—always waiting, doubting, and hesitating. But Kingdom Businessmen take action. They don’t sit on their vision. They don’t wait for permission. They move in faith.

YOUR TURN TO TAKE ACTION

So here’s the question: What’s the first brick you need to lay?

Stop waiting for the perfect moment. The perfect moment is now.

Faith isn’t about knowing every step before you move. It’s about taking the first step and trusting that God will strengthen you as you go.

Like the man at the temple gate, you may have been sitting in the same place for years, waiting for change. But today, God is saying: Get up. Start building. Lay the first brick.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF CTA (CALL TO ACTION)

Imagine what would happen if men everywhere stopped talking about their dreams and actually started building them.

What if we stopped sitting on our calling and stepped into what God has already equipped us to do?

This is where the momentum shifts.

But now comes the next challenge: Keeping the momentum going.

Because even after you start, fear and doubt will creep in. You’ll second-guess yourself. You’ll wonder if you really have what it takes.

That’s why in Phase 4, we’re going to talk about Tearing Down Weak Structures—removing the things in your life that are holding you back from building strong and finishing well.

Are you ready to take the next step? Let’s go.

The Current State of Business.

I’m a Cornell University graduate. When I started my business out of college, I thought I knew it all. Boy was I wrong, and in 2008, I nearly went bankrupt.

Then I discovered a secret that wasn’t taught to me in college. In fact, most colleges today would completely discredit the secret that I discovered.

I realized that the Bible is the best book on business in the planet. Every single situation I could run into, there was a solution for it in the Bible.

This was the beginning of my replacing of college knowledge with business wisdom.

Business wisdom is a key aspect of entrepreneurial maturity. We often think of growing into maturity as we get older and gain more business experience, but growing mature in business wisdom transcends age. Wisdom grows when we learn to apply our knowledge to common workday choices and situations.

James, the brother of Jesus and writer of the book of James, talks about the process of growing in spiritual maturity in James 1:1-5. He tells us that anybody who seeks wisdom should simply ask God for it, and God will give it generously to anyone who asks.

Growing in business wisdom through the Bible happens when we use our knowledge of God, the world, and ourselves, to make right decisions about how we should act, live, and talk as Christians. It’s as we get to know God better that we grow in His wisdom and are equipped along our Godpreneurial journey with the knowledge we need to run abundant businesses that honor Him. In this way, business wisdom comes from our relationship with God.

No business person needs to lack wisdom because God offers it freely through a relationship with Him. As we seek Him and His wisdom over marketplace matters, He gives us opportunities to practice it in our companies and grow in our trust in Him. And as we trust Him with our choices, we begin to see wisdom flourish in our lives.

So what will you do to cultivate business wisdom along your entrepreneurial journey? Are you going to rely soly on your college knowledge? Are you going to wait for the next New York Times Best Seller to give you business success tips?

The first step is to ask God for help for all your business needs. When you humbly come to God and admit your need for Him as the chairman of your board of directors, He will generously give you all the wisdom you need.

Restoring the Broken Framework: Rebuilding After Failure

Welcome back to my series of posts titled “The Kingdom Businessman Blueprint.”

In Phase 1 (click to read previous post), we laid the foundation by recognizing that God has called us to build, lead, and create with purpose. But what happens when we look at our business, leadership, or life and realize that things have already started to crumble? What if the foundation we’ve been building on is cracked? Before we can move forward, we need to address what’s broken—because God doesn’t just build, He restores.

A few years ago, I drove past a construction site in downtown Miami where a brand-new residential building was supposed to go up. The project had started strong—blueprints were approved, steel beams were raised—but then something went wrong. A flaw in the foundation was discovered, forcing the entire project to halt. Months passed, and instead of a towering structure, all that remained was an abandoned, unfinished framework.

I later found out that the foundation had cracks that made the entire structure unsafe. The only solution? Tear it down and start again.

This is where many Christian businessmen find themselves in life and business. We start with big dreams, but somewhere along the way, things start to fall apart. Maybe it’s a failed business, a broken marriage, or a spiritual disconnect that’s left you feeling like your foundation isn’t strong enough to keep building.

But here’s the truth: God specializes in restoring broken frameworks.

WE’VE ALL GIVEN UP SOMETIMES

Too many businessmen feel like they’ve already failed beyond repair. We’ve all made bad financial decisions that wrecked our business plans in one way or another. We’ve all made mistakes in leadership, in marriage, or in fatherhood that we don’t know how to fix. We’ve all lost confidence—in ourselves, in our calling, and even in God’s plan for our life.

When a man loses hope along his entrepreneurial journey, he stops building. He checks out. He stops running the race.

We see this all the time. Men give up on their dreams. They give up on their families. They check out of church. They stop believing that what they’re building even matters.

This isn’t new. In Ezekiel’s time, Israel had completely abandoned God. Their land was ruined, their leadership was corrupt, and their entire culture was built on the wrong foundation. They had allowed idols—false gods, false priorities—to replace their devotion to God.

And what did God do? He let everything collapse.

GOD WANTS TO LIFT US BACK UP

“The word of the Lord came to me: ‘Son of man, when the people of Israel were living in their own land, they defiled it by their conduct and their actions. Their conduct was like a woman’s monthly uncleanness in my sight. So I poured out my wrath on them because they had shed blood in the land and because they had defiled it with their idols.'”

God didn’t destroy Israel out of anger—He allowed their failures to expose their broken foundation.

Sometimes, God allows businesses, business deals, and business partnerships to fall apart to reveal what was wrong with the structure to begin with.

A business built on greed will eventually collapse.

A marriage built on selfishness will start to crack.

A life built on chasing success instead of God’s purpose will eventually leave a man empty and frustrated.

The good news? God doesn’t just tear down—He rebuilds!

Later in Ezekiel 36, God promises to restore His people—but first, they have to remove the idols that weakened their foundation.

An idol isn’t just a golden statue. An idol is anything that takes priority over God in business and life.

For some men, their idol is success. They build their identity around their business, and when it fails, they feel like they’ve failed as a man.

For others, their idol is control. They try to hold everything together in the company on their own strength, refusing to let God take the lead.

For some, their idol is comfort. They don’t want to make the hard choices as a leader, so they stay in cycles of mediocrity.

If you want God to restore what’s broken, you have to clear out what’s been weakening your structure.

TEAR DOWN WHAT’S BROKEN

Take a hard look at your life and business: What’s been holding you back?

Is there a failure you haven’t recovered from?

The first step to rebuilding your framework is surrender.

God won’t force you to change. But if you hand Him the broken pieces, He will restore what was lost. He will rebuild you stronger. He will make your business, your leadership, and your life stand on solid ground.

But you have to let go of what’s weakening your foundation.

WE’RE CALLED TO REBUILD

Imagine what would happen if men stopped giving up and started rebuilding. Imagine if we refused to let failure define us and instead let God reshape us into stronger leaders, husbands, and business owners.

That’s what Kingdom Businessmen do. We don’t quit. We don’t settle. We build again.

But before we move forward, there’s one more critical step: Taking action.

It’s not enough to hope for a better foundation. You have to lay the first brick.

And that’s exactly what we’ll cover next in Phase 3: Laying the First Brick – because a blueprint means nothing if you don’t start building.

See you in the next phase.

The Kingdom Businessman Blueprint – Phase 1: Built for the Challenge

Godpreneur Men, it’s time to step up.

The world is trying to redefine manhood. It’s telling us to sit down, stay quiet, and play it safe—especially when it comes to leadership, faith, and business. But God didn’t create you to be passive. He created you to build, to lead, and to take dominion over the marketplace He’s given you.

The problem? Too many businessmen today don’t know what they’re building. They chase success along the entrepreneurial journey without direction. They run businesses but feel spiritually lost. They work hard but never feel fulfilled.

That’s why we need a blueprint.

In this 8-phase blog post series, we’re diving into God’s plan for Kingdom Businessmen—men who build businesses with integrity, lead boldly, and create legacies that last. We’re going to uncover:

How to build with confidence, not fear.

How to restore what’s been broken in your life and business.

How to lead with strength, instead of staying passive.

How to ensure your success doesn’t fade, but lasts for generations.

This isn’t just about business. This is about becoming the man God designed you to be.

If you’re tired of feeling stuck, uncertain, or unfulfilled, then let’s break ground together.

Phase 1 starts now. Are you ready?

BUILT FOR THE CHALLENGE

I’m fascinated with how skyscrapers are built. It starts with an empty lot, but soon, heavy machinery rolls in, digging deep to lay a solid foundation. Steel beams rise, concrete is poured, and every detail follows a blueprint designed for strength and endurance.

But living in Miami and seeing abandoned construction lots, here’s what I know: not every building that starts construction gets completed. Some run out of funding. Some never even make it past the planning stage. Others collapse because they weren’t built correctly, like in the case of the tragic Surfside building here on Miami Beach.

The same thing has happened to me at times along my entrepreneurial journey. I know God created me to build—to lead, to take dominion, to create. But I still stall out, get distracted, and lose confidence in what I was meant to build. At times, I’ve abandoned my calling because of fear, failure, and attacks from the enemy.

But I know I was built for the challenge—that the very obstacles in front of me are meant to prove my strength, not break me.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

As men, we often feel the pressure of leadership—in business, in family, and in life. We have big visions but also big fears:

What if I don’t have what it takes?

What if I let my family down?

And on top of that, the world constantly tries to redefine masculinity, leadership, and success. It tells men to play it safe, be passive, and keep faith separate from business.

Many of us react in one of two ways:

Some men shrink back—playing small, avoiding risk, and letting opportunities slip by because they don’t believe they have what it takes.

Others overcompensate—chasing money, power, and recognition, thinking that success alone will prove their worth.

But both responses miss the truth: God has already called us to build. And when God calls, He equips. But it’s up to us Godpreneur men to step into that calling.

GOD CALLS THE CALLED

Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:10-11:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Notice what this verse says: “Be strong in the Lord”—not in your own ability, connections, or financial status.

God is the Master Builder, and He has already created a blueprint for leadership, success, and kingdom impact. But the enemy doesn’t want men to build something that glorifies God. He will use distractions, discouragement, and spiritual attacks to keep mem from laying the foundation and completing the work.

The enemy knows that if men rise up, businesses will honor God, families will be restored, and communities will change. That’s why he works overtime to weaken men, keep them passive, and make them doubt their calling.

But here’s the truth: God did not create men to sit on the sidelines. Godpreneur men were built to lead, to create, and to establish His kingdom in their business and their life.

WILL YOU TAKE THE CHALLENGE?

So, let me ask you: Are you following the right blueprint?

Have you been shrinking back instead of stepping up?

Have you been chasing worldly success instead of kingdom purpose?

Have you allowed fear and doubt to delay what God has called you to build?

If you want to construct a business and a life that stands the test of time, you need to start with the right foundation. That means strengthening your faith, aligning your leadership with God’s Word, and rejecting anything that pulls you away from His purpose.

The world needs Kingdom Businessmen who will build with integrity, lead with conviction, and create businesses that glorify God.

Will you step up and build? Or will you let the enemy keep you from your calling?

YOU’RE CALLED OUT, AND CALLED UP

Imagine if Christian men across industries stepped up—building businesses that don’t just make money, but shape culture and transform lives. Imagine a generation of bold, God-led businessmen who refuse to cut corners, who mentor the next generation, and who create lasting impact in their industries.

That’s what’s at stake. This is why God has called you.

Laying a strong foundation is the first step. But what if your foundation already feels cracked?

Maybe you’ve made mistakes. Maybe you’ve been burned by past failures—in business, in leadership, or in your personal life. Maybe you feel like you’ve already lost your chance to build something great.

Here’s the good news: God specializes in restoring broken frameworks.

In Phase 2, we’ll tackle what to do when your business, your confidence, or your vision feels like it’s falling apart. Because a true Kingdom Businessman doesn’t just build—he rebuilds with God’s strength.

Don’t miss it. See you in Phase 2.

When God Reroutes Your Business Plans

Think about your upcoming business plans for the day, week, year, and beyond.

Maybe you want to hire a new employee.

Maybe you want to get into a joint venture.

Maybe you want to write an industry book.

Maybe you want to expand into a new city.

Maybe you want to start a podcast.

Maybe you want to support a non-profit.

Maybe you want to get a business loan.

Maybe you want to pay off business debt.

The Bible says …

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs‬ ‭19:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

Ironically, I had plans to take my non-profit and my Godpreneur ministry to new heights, but when I gave it to the Lord a couple of years back, what I felt back from God was…."It's not your time yet, Alex." I felt the Lord wanted me to focus on my company and grow it tremendously. And God assured me that, later on, in HIS timing, He and He alone would take my Godpreneur walk to places I can't imagine.

My point is that I made plans, even ministerial plans, and God was able to give them a place in time for me.

Making plans for your company isn’t a bad thing. In fact, the Bible tells us that we will harvest what we plant (Galatians 6:7), so we should be diligent—not lazy—to wisely prepare for the future. But we must simultaneously hold those plans loosely, because God knows the full picture of our entrepreneurial journey.

God is always working in and through His people (us Godpreneurs), giving us the desire and power to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13). But sometimes, we require rerouting. Sometimes what we want for our business lives isn’t in His plan.

However even when we don’t get what we’ve hoped for, He always has our good and His glory in mind.

Jesus modeled how to surrender His own plans by literally giving His life up for us—for our freedom. And, even though it wasn’t easy, our business lives and our futures look different because God’s purpose prevailed.

So today, make a list of some of your business plans and dreams. Then hold your hands out in front of you, and visualize giving all of your dreams and plans over to God. Picture all of those plans evaporating from your hands. Then, ask God to show you which plans He wants to give back to you and if there are any new dreams He’s longing for you to receive.

PRAYER

God, sometimes it's hard to surrender my business to You. I make the mistake of thinking my plans are better than Yours. I know Your purpose for me is far greater than I can imagine, so I want to release all control to You. I invite You into my entrepreneurial decision-making. Please inspire every move and thought I make. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Overwhelmed by “Entrepreneur Influencers” on Social Media? Discover What God Says about Them.

As I scroll through social media, so many different business gurus want to convince me that their methodology is the best way for me to grow my agency.  Clips of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos giving talks at conferences pop into my feed and I listen because…well…these guys are trillionaires and I could probably pick up a golden nugget or two to take to my company, right?

But the truth is that I’m only hearing a little part of the content being shared.  I don’t know the whole story from beginning to end.  I have no idea what phase of the entrepreneurial journey these guys are on, so I’m not even sure if these bits of wisdom would even be applied correctly into my current business situation.

The fact is that there’s way too much information out there being shared for me to even know where to begin.  It’s overwhelming and almost stifles me.  I get paralysis by analysis and I end up doing none of it because I already forgot about it and I keep scrolling to the next guy’s advice.

I want to be prosperous and successful, like these other guys online.  I want the chaos of the rollercoaster of entrepreneurship to go away, and be replaced by the peace of knowing I’m financially stable.

But how do I get there when there are so many ideas and methods that trap me in a state of anxiety, overwhelm, and a feeling like I’m never doing enough?

After studying the word discernment in the Bible, and after months of prayer over my feelings of overwhelm surrounding my desires for success and prosperity, I come to the conclusion that there’s only one solution to this problem:  the Lord wants me to direct 100% of my focus and attention to Him, and only Him.

The Bible says in Proverbs 2:6-15 NIV:

[6] For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. [7] He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, [8] for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. [9] Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. [10] For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. [11] Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. [12] Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, [13] who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, [14] who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, [15] whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.

Proverbs teaches us Kingdom-driven entrepreneurs that knowledge, peace, understanding, success, prosperity, true wisdom, and discernment all come from the Lord.

Sure, it’s easier to scroll Instagram and pick up 90 second golden nuggets from these gurus. It’s easy to search online for answers on how to successfully grow a business and read many New York Times best sellers for the path to wealth and prosperity.  It’s much harder to carve out 1 hour every morning to read the Bible, meditate on it, and wait for the Holy Spirit to reveal a golden nugget.

However, King Solomon, the writer of this Proverb, emphasizes God as the source of wisdom.  Those Godpreneurs who earnestly seek Him will be granted knowledge and understanding.

The text makes clear that the Lord bestows wisdom – wisdom needed for running a successful business. From His mouth comes knowledge and comprehension.

Discernment is a divine gift, requiring an “all-in” relationship with God.

We don’t need to consume any more business books.  We don’t need to follow any other gurus.  God graciously imparts wisdom to Godpreneurs who sincerely seek Him. God’s wisdom is reserved for those who run businesses righteously and strive to follow His ways. An entrepreneur with integrity operates in genuine inner alignment with Biblical principles. He or she demonstrates to the marketplace a heart transformed and in love with God.

What if success and prosperity in business was really all about running a business in peace and inner alignment?

God guards the paths of justice and watches over His faithful marketplace ministers (yes, that’s you!). Walking in His wisdom provides protection and guidance along our entrepreneurial journey, acting as a safeguard that steers us along the right path and shields us from harm. Adhering to God’s Word for running our business ensures we operate on safe ground. This does not guarantee the absence of our companies failing or our product launches from bombing, but it prevents our own foolishness from being the source.

And if I’m “less foolish,” could that lead me to profit more in my business?  Close another deal?  Negotiate a better rate?  Lose one less client or employee?  Yes!

When you embrace God’s wisdom for operating your business, you gain an understanding of righteousness, justice, equity, and every good path. Rejecting worldly wisdom and embracing God’s wisdom leads us to run businesses characterized by understanding and righteousness. We attain clarity on what is just and fair in the marketplace according to God’s standards, not the world’s. We gain a discerning heart that delights in God’s truth, experiences peace, and is wholly satisfied.

I don’t know about you, but PEACE in my business would check off the box of “success” in my book.

Living by God’s wisdom also means rejecting the ways of the wicked by turning away from evil influences and rejecting values that contradict God’s Word. The wicked forsake uprightness, rejoice in evil, and delight in perversity. As Kingdom driven business owners, we are called to reject these paths, remaining steadfast on the path of righteousness – the path where success and prosperity abounds!

Reflect on the source of the entrepreneurial wisdom and discernment you currently seek. Are you turning to God and His Word, or are you being influenced by Instagram’s views of business success and prosperity?

Imagine if we all committed to pursuing business wisdom from the true source – God Himself.

Let’s all embrace His Word, operate with integrity, and experience His protection and guidance along our entrepreneurial journey. This is the pathway to true discernment, leading to a business life of righteousness and peace – a Godpreneur’s true standard for success and prosperity.

5 Mindsets for Success and Prosperity for Christian Entrepreneurs

One of my companies is a branding and marketing agency for charter schools.  We are extremely targeted in our niche. This devotion to one single type of client has helped us grow tremendously.

But it wasn’t always like this.  Before, I was a “generalist” agency.  I’d serve anyone that needed branding services.

However, everything changed when I joined this group called 7 Figure Agency. The founder of this group promised that if I pick a niche and follow his formula, I could grow my agency to 7 figures and beyond.  He has grown his agency using the same formula he was going to teach me, so I jumped into his program.

And boy was I receptive to his teachings.  I really wanted to break the 7-figure mark in revenue.  I was very perceptive to all of his teachings.  I actively attended the quarterly intensives and weekly online meetings.  And even though I had been an entrepreneur for 20 years, I humbled myself and took his online courses so that I could learn what I didn’t know.  And since he had grown his agency to 7 figures, I believed in his program.

And guess what?  It works!  Everything he taught, if I applied it correctly, would work!

As Godpreneurs who are looking to run kingdom-first businesses, we have the opportunity to look at the Bible as a big book on business management and entrepreneurial success.

But if we don’t jump into the Bible as the ultimate MBA business course on how to be successful and prosperous in business, we’ll miss many important lessons God wants to teach us.

Last blog we learned that the first secret to discernment is to desire it.

However, it’s not enough to merely desire discernment along our entrepreneurial journey; we must be willing to embrace what it takes to develop it.

[1] My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, [2] turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— [3] indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, [4] and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, [5] then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

From Solomon’s wisdom, we can grab 5 essential qualities you need to have as a kingdom-first business owner if you want to experience success and prosperity along your entrepreneurial journey.

1) A Receptive Mindset

A receptive mindset isn’t passive but actively listens, intending to learn and obey. It’s a heart that attentively inclines towards wisdom, eager to absorb and apply God’s teachings to the business.

2) A Perceptive Mindset

This involves recognizing the immense value of God’s Words to the business. To treasure something means to value it highly, to guard and protect it because of its worth. Godpreneur’s with a perceptive mindset see God’s commandments as precious treasures to be stored and cherished. This creates in us a heart that perceives the authority of God’s Word, understanding that its instructions carry eternal weight and truth for the marketplace.

3) An Actively Pursuing Mindset

This pursuit is likened to searching for silver or hidden treasures—activities that demand effort, dedication, and persistence. God-first business owners must recognize our deep need for wisdom along the entrepreneurial journey and pursue it more fervently than worldly riches.

4) A Humble Mindset

True wisdom and discernment reside in humility, in the recognition of our limitations as entrepreneurs and the need to submit to God’s higher understanding of the business world. Pride blocks discernment; it convinces us that we already possess all necessary knowledge for business success. Humility, on the other hand, opens us up to learn and grow in God’s wisdom.

5) A Believing Mindset

The path to discernment is rooted in faith, trusting in God’s promises for our entrepreneurial life. This believing mind turns to God, confident that He will provide the wisdom we seek for our business when we approach Him with a heart full of the right attitude.

True discernment isn’t found within ourselves; it’s found in God’s Word. Many “gurus” and social media influencers will push the cultural mantra that wisdom is rooted in personal experience and that emotion is a fallacy. Real wisdom, discernment, and truth in entrepreneurship come from God and are revealed in His Word.

Imagine if we all considered how we approach the pursuit of wisdom and discernment along our entrepreneurial journey.

Now is the time to take practical steps towards developing a mind and heart that seeks and treasures God’s Wisdom for our business ventures.

We must commit to reading His Word diligently, pray for a humble and receptive spirit, and trust that God will guide us in all discernment for leading our company.

This is the path to a business life grounded in truth and focused on Jesus.

The Key to God-First Business Success

As a success-driven business owner, I have deep wants and desires around the area of money and wealth.  So when I get on social media and see influencers flaunting their “stuff” and I hear business gurus talking about “the 3-step secret to making money on YouTube,” I’m naturally intrigued by it all because it matches my internal wants and desires.

But when I took a break from social media and I substituted that time with more Bible study, the Lord spoke clearly to me that I needed to learn more about the concept of discernment.  What the Lord was doing was shifting my wants and desires AWAY from what the world wants, and towards what Christian entrepreneurs should be seeking: Him.

In my previous blog, I laid out the definition of discernment.  Essentially, discernment is the ability to approve what God approves for our businesses and reject what He disapproves. It requires us to be spiritually present in our respective marketplaces so we can distinguish between good and evil, wisdom and folly.

And my overall message is that success and prosperity are a byproduct of our ability to discern.  If we make success and prosperity our priority over discernment, we get trapped in the overwhelm and confusion of the world’s definition of success and prosperity.

In our current business climate dominated by social media channels filled with worldly influencers and business gurus, the need for discernment is more crucial than ever.

How are we able to recognize and approve what God values when we’re stuck listening to what the world values?

How do we shift our desires for worldly business success to desiring Him alone?

In the Sermon on the Mound, Jesus gives us clue into the mindset shift that needs to happen.  He says “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Many of Jesus’ listeners were poor and may have felt they had to focus on making a living back at the farm.  They, too, had desires to make money and better their situation.  Knowing that these worldly desires would compete with their ability to follow Him, he teaches them that to not be consumed by the worries of the world, but to focus on loving others and living a heavenly life. Jesus promises that if people seek his kingdom first, he will provide for their needs.

Jesus would have been very familiar with Solomon’s teachings in proverbs.  Solomon lays out a great blueprint for seeking wisdom and understanding. It begins with a father’s plea to his son, urging him to receive and treasure the commandments and to be attentive. The passage emphasizes an if-then relationship: “If you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

Jesus and Solomon are teaching us God-first business owners the first key to making discernment a priority along our entrepreneurial journey:  desire.

We must first, DESIRE discernment over getting fed elsewhere.

The desire for discernment begins with a heart inclined towards wisdom, as highlighted in Proverbs 2: 3-5.

[3] indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, [4] and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, [5] then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.

This Wisdom isn’t natural; it’s something we must seek diligently.

It is developed through constant practice, as Hebrews 5:14 indicates, where mature Godpreneurs have their powers of discernment trained by distinguishing good from evil along their daily entrepreneurial journey. This training involves immersing ourselves in God’s Word (optimally, before your workday begins) and applying it daily so we can grow in our ability to perceive entrepreneurship from God’s perspective.

(P.S. why do you think my blog has been called “Daily” Godpreneur since 2014?  Because a true reflection of ones “desire” is in his or her DAILY pursuit of the Lord).

Discernment also extends to how we influence others. As business partners, vendors, and managers of our workforce, we are called to instill this value in those we care for and do business with. Proverbs uses the language of a father teaching a son to embrace Wisdom. However, for this teaching to be effective, those being taught must also value and seek wisdom. This mutual pursuit strengthens the bond and enhances the growth in discernment.

Our society often suffers from a false sense of independence, fueled by social media platforms that amplify every voice regardless of wisdom or understanding. Low competence is paired with high confidence, creating a destructive force.

True wisdom, however, recognizes the importance of God-given relationships and responsibilities. It values the input of wise teachers and leaders, grounding our thoughts and actions in Biblical Truth.

To cultivate a desire for discernment, we must

engage deeply with God’s Word daily,

practice its teachings in our day-to-day business dealings, and

respect the wisdom of those entrusted with our spiritual growth.

Imagine if all of us Christian entrepreneurs sought success and prosperity through the desire for discernment instead of searching on social media.  If we do, we can navigate the tumultuous waters of our times with clarity and conviction.

Are you diligently seeking wisdom like hidden treasures to bring into your business?

Do you value and respect the guidance of Godly leaders and teachers in your life?

Commit to pursuing discernment with a passionate heart, and encourage your partners, employees, contractors, and – dare I say – even your clients to do the same.

Let us strive to set our approval on what God approves in our business and reject what He disapproves, growing in wisdom and understanding each day.
